Today's Fact
On June 22, 1969 Cleveland, Ohio's polluted river caught fire. The blaze spurred change after a reporter witnessed an oil slick burning near a steel mill on the Cuyahoga River. The resulting feature in Time magazine, despite using images from a previous fire on the river, turned out to be instrumental in furthering the growing environmental movement in the US.
