Today's Fact

On November 16, 1959, the Broadway stage came alive with the 'Sound of Music.' In the now-beloved story, a governess, the children she teaches, and their father whom she’s come to love are forced to flee the Nazi occupation of Austria. The musical, by Rogers and Hammerstein, was based on the story of the Von Trapp family. Many of the show’s songs became standards, particularly after the release of a popular 1965 film adaptation.

  1. Thank you for the story about "The Sound of Music". Funnily, Christopher Plummer, who played the dad, used to call it, "The Sound of Mucous" because he hated playing his role. Needs must I guess and it went on to such great success that he mellowed about it.
